Corinthian Women

On May 17 and 18, 2008 the Corinthian Yacht Club invites future women sailors to sign up and sail out! This event is open to the public and club members are encouraged to come and invite their friends. This 2 day sailing seminar is designed for beginning sailors or those who would like to refresh their sailing skills. Based on the premise that “learning to sail is a hands on experience” each day has a combination of indoor learning experiences, presentations by seasoned sailors and sailing on the bay.

Following a morning filled with useful, basic information on sailing skills, participants form into teams and spend the afternoon on the bay learning the basics of sailing. Members of the Corinthian Yacht Club donate their time and boats to the success of this event. Boat owners are the skippers for this event and each boat also has a seasoned instructor on board. Every effort is made to assure that this is a safe, unthreatening sailing experience for all participants. This year's seminar is Sold Out!!

The Corinthian Women (TCW) is an active group of women members who plan and participate in many club events. TCW meets the second Thursday of each month at 6:30 pm in the Board Room and all women club members are welcome. It's a great way to get to know people in the club and play an active role! Our members include moms, professional women, retired women, sailors and women who get seasick! We always need volunteers to support our activities and the operation of the store. If you would like to get involved please attend one of our meetings. Our activities include social events such as Easter Brunch and Egg Hunt and Santa's Brunch. We host an annual luncheon and are active in Easter Seals on the Bay day. We also operate the Club Store, which sells clothing and accessories appropriate for boating with the club burgee. We host an annual Women's Sailing Seminar that attracts both club members and participants from all over the bay area. Here are some photos from the 2006 seminar and the 2007 seminar. We try to make the lectures fun and entertaining without compromising an emphasis on SAFETY. Participants rotate through stations where they receive individualized help. Stations include: learning terminology, tying knots, handling line, cleating, and sending a radio message. All boats have a "skipper" who is generally the boat owner. We also have an "instructor" on the boat and try to have that be a woman. Typically, there are 4-5 new sailors on each boat. During the seminar, there are two receptions to which we invite your family and friends. We have great food, iveaways, and, of course, wine and champagne - we are women after all.
